We specialise in the production and supply of quality wire and wire products for the construction, security, agricultural, engineering and mining sectors. Parallel Counterpoise – The parallel counterpoise is made up of one or more counterpoise buried under the transmission line through its length. Wireforce, situated in Germiston, is one of the largest converters of wire in South Africa. Two types of counterpoise are used in the transmission line, i.e., the parallel counterpoise and the radial counterpoise. The counterpoise for an overhead terminal consists of a special ground terminal that reduces the surge impedance of the ground connection and increases the coupling between the ground wire and the conductor. The wire is usually made up of galvanised steel. The counterpoise is the conductor buried in the ground. It can be minimised by reducing tower footing resistance using driven rods and counterpoises where soil resistivity is high. The back flash over only occurs when the product of the tower conductor and tower impedance exceeds the insulation levels of the line. Such a flashover is known as back flashover. If the resistance between them is not low and the earth wire or tower will be struck by the lighting, then the lighting will be raised to the very high potential, which will cause a flash over from the tower to one or more phase conductors. The waves reach the adjoining tower, which passes them to earth safely. The earth wire is effective only when the resistance between the tower foot and earth is sufficiently low. The annual fall pupfish count is planned for this weekend. When the lightning strikes an earth wire at mid-span, waves are produced which travel in opposite directions along the line. In March this year, the population was up to 175 fish. Nine years ago, there were only 35 fish in their natural habitat. ![]() “We didn’t find any dead fish after the waves stopped.”The Devils Hole pupfish population have been on an upswing lately. “The pupfish have survived several of these events in recent years,” said Kevin Wilson, National Park Service aquatic ecologist. ![]() In the short term, this reduces food available to the pupfish. Monday’s waves, technically known as a seiche, stirred the sediment and rocks on the shallow shelf, also removing much of the algae growth. The cave is hundreds of feet deep, but the endangered Devils Hole pupfish depend upon algae that grows on a shallow, sunlit shelf. The waves reached 4 feet high around 11:35 am.ĭevils Hole is a partially water-filled limestone cave in a Nye County, Nevada unit of Death Valley National Park. Five minutes later, water started sloshing 1,500 miles away in Devils Hole. The earthquake shook the Mexican states of Colima and Michoacán at 11:05 am Pacific Daylight Time. ![]() Video footage of the “desert tsunami” is available below. Includes: (2) SAFE-T-PROOF 18' Straps, (2) SAFE-T-PROOF 1' SS L-Brackets, (2) Snap Hooks, (4) Sets of Strap Connecting Hardware and (2. The quick-release feature enables you to move the racks as needed. This SAFE-T-PROOF anchorage kit is perfect for free-standing racks. In a surprising quirk of geology, Monday’s magnitude 7.6 earthquake in Mexico triggered four-foot-tall waves in Devils Hole, located in Death Valley National Park.
